A Comeback Destination. Iconic. Wildlife & Water.

Set between two iconic rivers – the Zambezi in the north and the Limpopo to the south – Zimbabwe is as famous for a certain waterfall, as for its notorious ex-leader. A safari Mecca of yesteryear, it is now making a comeback with glorious new properties opening up – think Matetsi River Lodge – and the US$150 million airport expansion at Victoria Falls.

Wildlife and water go hand-in-hand in this magnificent country, providing an abundance of land and water-based safaris. Encounter large herds of elephant and buffalo, and arich variety of plains game and predators while driving or walking from waterhole to waterhole in UNESCO-protected Mana Pools. Make angling your focus – dodging hippo as you battle fierce tiger fish. Or kayak in silence past giraffe drinking unawares or a rhino silhouetted against the rising sun. Lake Kariba, a vast stretch of water studded with islands, is known for its wildlife, fishing and houseboats. The lifeblood of these two areas, the Zambezi itself offers spectacular scenery, chilled river cruises, white-knuckle water rafting and one of the world’s natural wonders: Victoria Falls. It is impossible to describe the sheer magnitude and splendour of this enormous waterfall without experiencing it first hand.

And then there’s the Eastern Highlands, also offering wonderful scenery, hiking and fishing. Locals believe that the voices of the ancestors – perhaps even those who built Great Zimbabwe now in ruins to the south – can still be heard in the still mountain air.
