Pearl of Africa. Standalone Destination. Primates.

It was Winston Churchill who coined Uganda’s nickname in his 1908 book ‘My African Journey’. In fact, he became quite enthused as he wrote: “For magnificence, for variety of form and colour, for profusion of brilliant life – bird, insect, reptile, beast – for vast scale, Uganda is truly the pearl of Africa.” This name is as apt today as it was then, as Uganda offers some of the most stunning African landscapes condensed into a relatively small area. Testament to this are the almost mystical names given to these natural wonders, of which ‘The Mountains of the Moon’, ‘The White Nile’ and ‘Bwindi Impenetrable Forest’ are just a few.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is populated by hundreds of bird species and the highest concentration of primates on Earth – including half of the world’s critically endangered mountain gorillas. Also a national park, Kibale Forest is home to a large habituated chimpanzee population. Watching these gentle primates interact is a true highlight of a walking safari.

Unquestionably a stand-alone destination with virgin rainforest, breathtaking and unusual birdlife and challenging trekking, Uganda simultaneously feeds curiosity, delight and an awe-inspiring sense of mystery –the mighty jungle picture of Africa dreamt of in childhood.
