South Africa

South Africa has a land area of 1.3 million sq. kms or 500,000 sq. miles. That is five times the size of Great Britain or greater than California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona combined. This impressive stretch of land runs from the great Limpopo River in the north, to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Agulhas on the southernmost coast, with the bracing Atlantic Ocean to the west and the warm Indian Ocean to the east. With 3,600 kms of coastline (2,236 miles), there is no shortage of stunning beaches for lovers of sunshine and water-sports.

Home to approximately 42 million people of various races and ancestry, South Africa has eleven official languages, including English, Afrikaans Xhosa, Sotho, Venda, Tswana, Shangaan and Ndebele. This diversity of languages gives an indication as to the broad spectrum of culture that makes South Africa the truly unique country that it is. A country where European meets traditional Africa and where global trends rub shoulders with ancient customs.

The South African climate ranges from temperate to sub-tropical while the landscapes include deserts, mountains, grasslands, forests and beaches. The Rainbow Nation is a magnificent country blessed with extraordinary natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage.
