Chad has never been on my bucket list, however it is now! I have just returned from Zakouma, the park run by the fantastic African Parks – a wildlife organization which I have no hesitation in praising at every opportunity. What they have accomplished in Zakouma could truly serve as a model all over Africa.

Right up in the Matthews mountains in Kenya's Northern Frontier are the extraordinary singing wells of the Samburu people.
In the height of the dry season, the Samburu will drive their livestock 50 or 60 miles to water them here.
A Q&A WITH MICHAEL LORENTZ
Q) Overall, the picture for conservation is gloomy. There's pressure on natural habitats across the continent, rhino numbers plummeting. Where's the good news?
A) We have to be realistic. The situation is not good. The long-term future of Africa's wildlife is in the balance.
