Maasai Mara, Kenya
Photographing a mother and her young is always a joy. These hyena cubs fought to feed until the mother couldn't take anymore and aggressively snarled, and back to play they went. I was astounded at the number of hyena in the Maasai Mara during a recent safari to Kenya AND the immense size of their clans.
Last I heard they are outnumbering lions by three to one. With their large clans they are a serious a serious threat to the lion's status as top predator. Although most known for scavenging, the hyena are quite skilled and powerful hunters.
